本书是按照重新修订出版的上海市《英语中级口译资格证书考试大纲》听力部分的要求而编写的，目的是使学生通过培训能基本达到参加英语中级口译资格证书考试的听力水平。 本教程共16单元，以每周一次（3课时）计，可供使用16周。其中每个单元分4部分：部分操练重点是听写和回答问题；第二部分练习单句听力理解；第三部分练习段落听力理解；第四部分练习听译。每部分列出的词汇和注释可以在听录音前由学生预习或由教师略作讲解。除在练习指示中另行注明外，录音材料放一遍后即可做有关练习。但是，教师可根据学生实际水平和录音材料的难易程度，重放录音1—2遍后再做练习。每单元的内容如多于课堂内能实际完成的，可布置为课后作业，让学生自己完成。
